Wagamamas Glasgow

In September we had our first Wagamamas experience. We always hear people talking about it and we have never been so when we both took a half day at work to go to a Make Up Lesson at Urban Decay, I will link my blog post on this here we decided we would go to Wagamamas for lunch as they have just released a new menu.

Probably like most people I (Tracey) have ate plenty of chinese food but never tried japanese.  I (Paula) have tried japanese before and always really enjoyed it.

Tracey - There are plenty of choices on the menu but I decided to play it as safe as I could with a Katsu Chicken Curry, you can't go wrong with curry right? Katsu curry is different from your average curry as the chicken is coated with panko breadcrumbs and the sauce is more fruitier so this was me pretending to be "risky" haha.  They also do a grilled chicken version if you want to watch the calories a little, I think this is a great variation.

I (Paula) decided on Pad Thai. Which is rice noodles in a sweet tamarind sauce with chicken and prawns, egg beansprouts, leeks, red and spring onions, chinese chives, garlic, ginger, mint and chillies, garnished with coriander cress, fried shallots, peanuts and lime

Tracey - When the food came it was a really big portion size and was sooo good! I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the panko coated chicken in with my curry and I also enjoyed eating the chicken with the side salad too. I don't know what kind of dressing was on the salad but it was surprisingly delicious for a side salad and I ate every bit on my plate! So I was very happy with my choice of dish!

Paula - Same as Tracey my Pad Thai was a really large portion which was great.  The first bite was delicious but after that I'm afraid I was left a little disappointed.  Pad Thai should be packed full of flavour but I felt this was bland and didn't pack the punch I had desired. It almost tasted watery and possibly like a watered down version of what I expected it to be.  Towards the end I added soy sauce (that was provided on the table) and that seemed to perk it up a little.  I am not going to completely write off Wagamamas as I intend to go back and try something else.

We then decided to go all out and get a little dessert, purely for blogging purposes obviously ha! We did originally order the tasters dessert to share, which has 3 little desserts to try. A passion fruit cheesecake, white chocolate and ginger cheesecake and chocolate fudgecake however we were very disappointed when we were told they were all out of this dessert boo!

However we couldn't agree on a dessert to share so we decided to try the white chocolate and ginger cheesecake and the passion fruit cheesecake. Tracey - I did enjoy this cheesecake however the ginger was a little stronger than I would have liked and to be honest I would have preferred it to just be white chocolate. It was very rich and I couldn't finish the whole thing, I did enjoy it but most likely not something I would order again.  Paula - The passion fruit cheesecake again wasn't that great, had a real artificial taste and a strange after taste and I also didn't finish it.

Finally we noticed on the menu that they do green tea .. for free! I love green tea, I have like 3-5 cups a day haha so I could not pass up a free green tea after my meal and it was just the perfect end to the meal!

We would definitely go back to Wagamamas again, I don't know if I (Tracey) would be brave enough to go for something different .. most likely I will stick with the Katsu Chicken Curry as I did really enjoy it!

  1. I LOVE Wagamama's Chicken Katsu Curry. Never tried a dessert there (and don't think I will). I always have Ebi Gyoza as a side dish/starter x
